The first stamps of invoice 40-1865 were overprinted with the name OAJACA. The spelling was changed to OAXACA sometime before invoice 88-1865 was received, and was used for the remainder on the issue.

The name overprints were applied somewhat carelessly. The name can be found just about anywhere on the stamp, and in several positions.
